Greengages on wood table. Greengages are small, oval plums with either green or pale golden skin. In France, where they were turned into an orchard crop, they may also be called Reine Claude plums. II is common, in English, to refer to all fruits of the Prunus genus as gages. Since the skin of these plums is green, therefore the name greengages.
